Not every face is what it seems.
Which Witch? is a personal illustration exploring identity, repetition, and visual perception through a series of familiar faces.
Although the same character appears throughout the composition, subtle changes in expression, perspective, and gesture give each appearance a personality of its own.
I wanted to create something playful yet slightly unsettling, where repetition becomes part of the visual storytelling and encourages the viewer to question what they're seeing.
For the color exploration, I developed two different palettes: one with cooler, muted teal and green tones, and another with warmer, earthy hues and stronger contrasts. I was interested in how these shifts in color temperature and lighting could change the atmosphere of the illustration while preserving its original composition.
I've also included the sketches, color studies, and painting process to share how the piece developed.
And now, the question is yours: How many witches can you find?
